Safety and wellbeing one and the same?

Having a safety and well-being mindset is essential for maintaining a healthy and productive work environment especially whilst working at sea. Here are some key points to keep in mind:

  1. Be aware of potential hazards: Take the time to identify potential hazards in your workplace and take steps to address them before they cause harm, a positive safety culture is better for all it shouldn't be one based on fear of reprimand.

  2. Follow safety procedures: Make sure you understand and follow all safety procedures and protocols, encourage questions, encourage supportive explanations realize not everybody absorbs information the same way.

  3. Speak up: If you notice a safety concern, don't be afraid to speak up and bring it to the attention of your supervisor or other relevant parties, it could be you that gets hurt. Again a supportive and positive culture is essential for this ...getting the hint yet

  4. Take care of yourself: Practicing good self-care, such as getting enough sleep, eating well, and exercising regularly, can help you stay alert and focused at work. Be truthful with yourself, if you're not up for the task speak up and seek help, it's potentially dangerous not to.

  5. Look out for your coworkers: Encourage a culture of safety and wellbeing by looking out for your coworkers, maybe consider a Mental Health First Aid course * we know a shameless plug but hey it's important.

  6. Stay up to date: Stay informed about the latest safety practices and guidelines in your industry and make sure you're up to date on any new developments or changes. Ask yourself is my knowledge where it needs to be? if not get help with further training or simply ask for updates from your supervisor.

Remember, a safety and wellbeing mindset is not just about avoiding accidents or injuries, but also about creating a positive and supportive work environment where everyone can ask the right questions without fear of ridicule. It's proven that debriefs that include all involved add to a company's ability to manage incidents and have produced some incredible ideas. #wellbeing #Safetymindset #Mentalhelathfirstaid #tourism #greatbarrierreef
