Support - Education - Wellness

   Our mission is simple:

  • To create a peer-to-peer support network for workers and employers

  • To increase mental health literacy across the industry via training and workshops

  • To improve general well-being and by default safety in this amazing industry

  • To normalize conversations about mental health

Why?

Always a good question this is what we see

Marine-based tourism supports over 60,000 workers in the GBR catchment area alone, this number increases significantly if we were to take a national snapshot. If we consider that 1 in 5 Australians have a diagnosable mental health disorder every year and apply that to just the GBR region that would equate to over 3000 needing support, sadly evidence shows only a 3rd will seek help.

Workers in this industry face unique challenges that potentially place them at a greater risk of developing an MH disorder. Long hours, stressful environment, wage insecurity, often living away from support networks, a culture that hides substance abusers, in short, not every day is living the dream.

Employers face unique challenges as well, staff insecurity, high staff turnover, reliance on positive media, unplanned weather events, the ever-rising cost of simply doing business, and constant legislation and compliance to name just a few.
